ONC - Course 3: Oncology Nutrition Foundations & Complimentary Actions with Conventional Treatment
Students in the third, 10-week course of the ONC program will gain insight into how to actively support their clients through conventional medical treatments including chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Students will learn which integrative nutrition therapy approaches to employ depending on type of treatment to avoid interactions. End of life discussions are also presented along with self-care strategies for the ONC. This course details the principles, goals, and scope of practice in Oncology Nutrition Therapy. It includes the practical application of methods used by practitioners in performing and recording a proper client intake, evaluation, assessment, and intervention plan. Understanding specific terminology and protocols used in conventional medical settings is contrasted with those used in holistic settings. Overview, development, and refinement of intake forms are key course elements, in addition to understanding and practicing the SOAP note documentation format. Creating an appropriate nutrition plan for the client is crystalized
